yo mama
Hey everyone! By the time you'll be reading this, it'll be after Halloween. I hope it was safe, fun, and that you made good decisions, and a few bad ones ;)
Anyways... this is our last blog that's coming from our point of view and I'm so sad :( these are my favorite types of blogs! For my final blog, I've decided to interview the person who means the most to me... my mama!
I am so much like this woman, I'll post a picture below! We look, talk, and think just alike! Therefore, I wanted to see if our music taste when she was younger and me now are about the same! I really wanted to do a video for this assignment, but unfortunately my whole family packed up and left for the beach without me :( perks of being the only kid in college! So this will be an over the phone conversation!
I'm gonna try and write this out the easiest way possible, so I think I'm just going to do it like a script in a play!
**phones rings **
Jennifer: hello...
Gracie: hey mama, I got some questions to ask you!
Jennifer: no you're not going to that Halloween party, and these other questions better not be stupid
lol little does she know I'm throwing the Halloween party
Gracie: no, its just some questions for that music class I'm in
Jennifer: okay...? go ahead
Gracie: when you were growing up, what did memaw and grandaddy think about your music?
Jennifer: Well for the most part they were okay with it. You know your grandaddy likes those old love songs, and your memaw likes jazz and blues music. They never had a problem with what I wanted to listen to though. Like if we were riding in the car, they didn't mind if I picked the radio station
Gracie: alllright *trying to type her answers down really fast*. Okay, what kind of music did they play at Lockhart First Baptist when you were growing up?
Jennifer: Honestly, the same exact music they play now. Just old Gospel hymns. The same books they use now, were the same books we used when I was younger. They've really taken care of them. But you know I don't mind the old hymns, they remind me of your mama pid (mama pid was my mama's grandma)
Gracie: mama quit, you gonna make me cry (I miss her too :( ) okay, last one about your childhood. Did memaw sing to you when you were little, and what did she sing?
Jennifer: yes, your memaw was always singing to me and your aunt Joni. She sand the temptations the most, "My Girl", and when we were falling asleep, she sang that song she made up that she use to always sand to you.
Gracie: oh yeah, I remember that song! Okay, now to the present day. What do you think about my generations music.
Jennifer: I like some of the new country music that people are putting out there. Like Rhett Aikens son, the boy you like (Thomas Rhett), but that Cardi B and all these rapping songs, they are just disgusting Gracie! And I better not catch you listening to that crap!
Gracie: mama we ain’t even getting into that right now... okay I got one last question for you
**takes a deep breath cause this is about to get real personal**
Gracie: Did you ever listen to any specific music when you and daddy split up? Like was there any music that helped you get through it?
Jennifer: Gracie, you know that everyday on the way to school me and you listening to "I Will Survive", that was a good one. I listen to a lot of country break up songs, I know they're sad but, sometimes they just helped... and I mean there was a few more songs here and there, but mostly country breakup
Gracie: okay mama thank you, I love you have fun at the beach.
Jennifer: I love you too, Grace, no party.
**hangs up the phone**
In conclusion, I figured out why country heart break is my favorite type of music! It reminds me of my childhood lol. I really liked this writing because I loved how I got to ask my mama questions I usually don't get to, or never think to!
As always, thanks for reading my blog peeps :)
Peace
Gracie :)

Hello, I really enjoyed reading your blog! I know it was probably hard to talk about certain part of your blog. But it was a great to read how music help your mother cope with certain obstacles. Overall, it was great to read how music will always play a role in people life.
ReplyDeleteHey! I really enjoyed your blog! I loved when your mom was talking about the music at the church yall go to and how the songs and even books have not changed, but she still loves them because of who it reminds her of. I thought it was so funny when she was talking about rap music today and how you better not be listening to it.
